Avmax Creates FAA and TCCA STC Solution for DHC-8 ADS-B Out Compliance
Calgary, Alberta (November 18, 2015) — Avmax is happy to announce the receipt of a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 25 Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) in conjunction with their Transport Canada Civil Aviation Administration (TCCA) STC approval of its ADS-B Out DO-260B ADS-B solution in the Bombardier Dash 8 100/200/300 aircraft.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to provide a solution to meet our Dash 8 operators needs well before the 2020 US equipage mandate.” said Tobin Shackelford, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing “With our global divisions, we are able to provide all our customers maintenance requirements in combination with this retrofit. Avmax is proud to provide our ‘Nose to tail and everything in between’ know-how to the legacy Dash 8 operator.”
The installation of this ADS-B Out solution improves flight efficiency and increases airspace capacity. Providing ATC a clear image of the actual separation between aircraft allowing controllers to avoid inefficient vectoring commands to maintain separation. It assists aircraft to move to optimal operational altitudes in remote areas, and allows pilots to receive changes to more fuel-efficient cruise altitude. ADS-B Out provides:
- Fuel savings due to more direct routes and more efficient altitudes
- Reduction in emissions and noise through continuous descent and curved approaches
- Route flexibility
- Approval of altitude-change requests more readily available
Avmax has a number of options to meet all our customer’s needs, from a turnkey solution to third party installation support:
- Upgrade or Exchange your existing transponders
- Our STC will accommodate the upgrade of your existing ADC, if required
- Complete Wiring Kits and STC Packages available for 3rd Party Completion
- Multiple locations or Mobile teams
- Combine with other existing Avmax STC(s) including our FMS and pending FANS solution
The STC approval, provides for a standalone ADS-B Out solution by retrofit of the two existing transponders with the Rockwell Collins TDR-94(D) Mode S Transponders, retaining existing control head and antennas. The STC installation generally takes four to six days to complete.
Avmax’s engineering division is a Transport Canada authorized Design Approval Organization. Last year
the company issued more TCCA Dash 8 STCs than all other Canadian Dash 8 STC holders combined.
